Across Canada, the housing gap continues to widen, disproportionately affecting Black communities. Black households are significantly less likely to own homes and more likely to experience housing insecurity, overcrowding, and affordability challenges. Research has shown that systemic barriers—including discrimination in housing and lending, lower intergenerational wealth, and unequal access to financial resources—continue to limit pathways to homeownership and long-term housing stability. At the same time, homeownership remains one of the most powerful tools for building wealth and creating generational opportunities. BHOT exists to close this gap by equipping individuals and families with the knowledge, resources, and support needed to navigate renting, purchasing, and maintaining stable housing. Through education, advocacy, and community partnerships, BHOT is helping transform housing from a barrier into a pathway for economic empowerment and lasting change.
